Three employees have sustained minor injuries in an explosion at a bandage factory in the Meepe area of Padukka today (Oct. 30), police said. According to police, the explosion occurred while workers were attempting to cut and modify a diesel tank using gas equipment. The tank, which was purchased at an auction after being removed from a fuel filling station, was reportedly intended to be used for storing lubricating oil at the factory. Police said the explosion occurred as the workers attempted to modify the tank without removing the remaining fuel inside. Two male employees sustained injuries in the explosion, while a female employee was hospitalised after a roof tile fell onto her head. They have been admitted to the Homagama Base Hospital for treatment. The Padukka Police are conducting further investigations.
