5th bomb attack reported in Dehiwala Sri Lanka Mirror

Police say five bomb attacks have been carried out so far this year, including the latest attack on a house in the Sirisangabo Mawatha area of Dehiwala.

Two young children were killed in the latest bomb attack, which targeted a house in Dehiwala yesterday.

Three of the series of bomb attacks were reported within the Mount Lavinia Police Division.

The three bomb attacks reported in the Mount Lavinia area were the bombing of a relative’s house of a major drug trafficker named Russell Smith, who is currently overseas, on Gnanendra Road, Ratmalana, on 5 August; the bombing of the house of a motorcycle repairer on Sri Wimalasiri Road, Kalubowila, belonging to a friend of a drug trafficker named Badovita Avishka, who is also overseas, on the 9th; and the bombing of a house in the Sirisangabo Mawatha area of Dehiwala in the early hours of yesterday (11).

A senior police officer said the police are paying close attention to the use of bombs by underworld gangs in the Western Province over the past month, instead of firearms.

The senior police officer further said there is suspicion that the gangs are using bombs obtained from the LTTE during the war, and that the police are considering deploying the armed forces in future to assist in combating crime.
