8-Hour Route: Air Arabia Launches 3rd Daily Nonstop Flight To London [Map] - Simple Flying

Air Arabia is expanding its newest long-haul route just weeks after launching flights to the United Kingdom. Beginning on October 25, 2026, the Sharjah-based low-cost carrier will increase its Sharjah International Airport (SHJ) – London Gatwick Airport (LGW) service from twice daily to three daily nonstop flights, all operated by the Airbus A321LR . The move comes quickly after the route debuted on July 4, highlighting stronger-than-expected demand for travel between the UAE and the UK .

While London is the destination printed on the ticket, many passengers are expected to use Sharjah as a convenient connection point to destinations across Saudi Arabia (especially after Wizz Air ceased its Gatwick flights to Medina and Jeddah ), India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, and other parts of South and Southeast Asia. Air Arabia has built one of the region's largest low-cost connecting networks from Sharjah, making Gatwick an increasingly important European gateway for the airline.

Air Arabia initially launched the route with two daily flights, making it the airline's first-ever scheduled service to the United Kingdom. According to schedule filings published by AeroRoutes , the carrier will introduce a third daily rotation from October 25 as part of its Northern Winter 2026/27 schedule. The additional service represents a 50% increase in capacity on a route that has barely been in operation for a few months.

The newly added service is the morning departure from Sharjah (G9258), which leaves at 11:30 local time and arrives at London Gatwick at 15:35. It complements the existing early-morning departure (G9265) and the newly timed mid-morning service (G9267), giving passengers far greater flexibility throughout the day. Westbound flight time is approximately eight hours, while eastbound flights take around seven hours and twenty minutes, depending on the winds.

The rapid expansion is particularly notable because Air Arabia only inaugurated the route on July 4, with two daily Airbus A321LR flights. At the launch, London Gatwick described the twice-daily operation as providing passengers with excellent flexibility while opening a new nonstop connection between the UK and Sharjah. Less than a month later, that flexibility is set to improve even further with three daily departures.

Rather than relying solely on demand between London and the UAE, Air Arabia is expected to benefit significantly from connecting traffic. Sharjah, the third-biggest airport in the UAE by passenger traffic and destinations, serves as the airline's primary hub, offering hundreds of weekly flights throughout South Asia and Southeast Asia. Passengers traveling from London can make relatively quick onward connections to cities including Jeddah, Mumbai, Delhi, Karachi, Lahore, Dhaka, Colombo, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur without passing through the busier and more expensive hubs at Dubai or Abu Dhabi.

The A321LR makes the route economically viable. Its long-range capability allows Air Arabia to operate an approximately eight-hour sector using a narrowbody aircraft while maintaining the lower operating costs associated with the A320 family. This enables the airline to compete aggressively on fares while offering nonstop service to a market traditionally dominated by larger widebody aircraft operated by full-service carriers.

The increase also strengthens London Gatwick's long-haul network. The airport continues to attract new airlines and destinations, with Air Arabia becoming one of the latest carriers to establish operations there. The addition of a third daily frequency improves connectivity for both local London passengers and international travelers connecting through Sharjah's expanding network.

The routes are operated by the Middle East and North Africa’s leading budget carrier.

The new Gatwick flights are all operated by the A321LR, one of the longest-range single-aisle aircraft currently in commercial service. Its combination of lower fuel consumption and long-range performance has enabled airlines such as Air Arabia to open thinner intercontinental routes that would have been uneconomical using traditional widebody aircraft.

The London expansion also demonstrates Air Arabia's confidence in long-haul narrowbody operations . Although the airline has historically focused on regional routes across the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia, the A321LR is enabling a gradual expansion into Europe with flights lasting up to eight hours. If demand continues to grow as quickly as it has since launch, additional European destinations could eventually follow.

For now, however, London Gatwick has become Air Arabia's flagship European destination. Increasing frequencies just weeks after launch is an unusually rapid expansion for any new long-haul route and suggests the airline sees significant potential in combining strong local UK-UAE demand with its extensive network of low-cost onward connections across Asia.
