COLOMBO, SRI LANKA — The Ceylon Academy of Gemmological Science (CAGS) recently held its second big graduation ceremony at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH). This event shows how the academy is working hard to bring modern science and technology into Sri Lanka’s traditional gem business.
The main goal of CAGS is to teach students using international standards. By combining science with modern business lessons, the school helps young people learn skills that are needed all over the world. This helps the local gem industry grow from a traditional craft into a modern, global business.
Important Facts About the Graduation
The event was led by Umesh Wariyapperuma, the Founder and Chairman of CAGS. Many school leaders, government officers, and business experts also attended the ceremony to show their support for the students.
During his main speech, Umesh Wariyapperuma explained why good education is so important for the country’s economy.
“To make Sri Lanka’s gem industry famous around the world, we must give our students proper scientific training and teach them how global markets work,” said Wariyapperuma. “The gem industry creates amazing job and business opportunities for our youth. CAGS is helping to fill the gap by giving students real, proven skills. The graduates who receive certificates today are a true treasure for our country. They will help bring foreign money into Sri Lanka, boost our economy, and build successful lives for themselves.”
The classes at CAGS teach students how to solve modern problems, such as finding fake or treated gemstones. Students learn to use modern tools and microscopes to test the quality and origin of Sri Lanka’s famous stones. At the same time, the jewelry design students learn how to use digital design software on computers to create styles that global buyers love.
The ceremony ended with a display of the students’ creative work. Faculty members, past students, and parents all came together to celebrate this proud moment. By giving young people professional skills and introducing modern research, CAGS is helping to build a stronger and brighter future for Sri Lanka’s gem industry.
