Two spillway gates of the Deduru Oya Reservoir have been opened by two feet each, while six other gates have been opened by three feet each due to heavy rains, the Irrigation Department said.

As a result, water is being released into the Deduru Oya at a rate exceeding 15,300 cubic feet per second (cusecs).

Director of Irrigation (Water Management) urged residents living along both banks of the river downstream of the reservoir to remain vigilant over possible changes in water levels.

He also advised the public to closely follow announcements issued by the Irrigation Department and disaster management authorities regarding the operation of the spillway gates.
