Devoleena Bhattacharjee has always been vocal about several things that happen in the society. She recently took to her X handle and said that she has never kept a Karwa Chauth fast as a married woman. However, the Saath Nibhaana Saathiya actress expressed her wish to keep it one day. Devoleena defended the Hindu ritual and mentioned that those who don’t believe it should not judge others for doing the same. She wished a happy Karwa Chauth to all women who are celebrating it. She is hoping to keep a fast on Karwa Chauth next year, as she is still breastfeeding.

Devoleena Bhattacharjee, in a note, mentioned that Karwa Chauth is an important festival for married women. She stated that she has never kept a fast because, in Bengali and Assamese cultures, it is not a tradition. She stated, “We may not have every ritual, but we celebrate so many festivals with all our hearts. So why not Karwa Chauth? Honestly, I do feel like keeping it someday. But I’m scared I won’t be able to manage a whole day without water! I fast every Monday and sometimes on Ekadashi, but water fasting? That’s a different story!” (sic)

According to Devoleena , Karwa Chauth is a love language for many couples. She has seen women celebrating it happily. She has also witnessed a positive change in today’s time, as many husbands fast alongside their wives. She questioned the haters of Karwa Chauth over criticising the Hindu ritual in the name of feminism, patriarchy and judgement.

Devoleena stated, “So why bring feminism , patriarchy and judgement into someone else’s celebration? You don’t believe in it? Don’t celebrate it. Nobody is judging you. But why spoil someone else’s happiness? Mothers fast for their children, for their families. So if someone wishes to fast for her husband one day, why should that be a problem? As long as it’s a personal choice and nobody is forced into it, let people celebrate love the way they want to.” (sic)

Devoleena Bhattacharjee got married to fitness trainer Shanawaz Shaikh. She revealed that her husband keeps asking her every year if she is keeping a fast. She is still breastfeeding; hence, she is hoping to keep it next year. She concluded her statement by saying, “Because honestly, husbands deserve to feel special and loved too, don’t they? We do intermittent fasting, try keto and follow all kinds of diets for ourselves. But when it comes to fasting for a husband, suddenly everything becomes about patriarchy and feminism? Love is personal. Traditions are personal. Celebrations are personal. Let people choose what makes them happy.” (sic)

Devoleena’s post is going viral on social media, and it has left the netizens divided.

Coming back to Karwa Chauth, the festival is celebrated every year by married couples to seek marital harmony and longevity. It symbolises devotion and love for each other. On this special occasion, married women observe a Nirjala Vrat, fasting without water, from sunrise to moonrise for the long life of their husbands.

Coming back to Devoleena Bhattacharjee, the actress has been way from the limelight after welcoming her first child, a baby boy. She shot to fame with her show, Saath Nibhaana Saathiya. She played the role of Gopi Bahu in it. Later, she acted in several shows. She had also participated in Bigg Boss 13 as a contestant.
