Colombo, Nov 07 (Daily Mirror) - The Government has no authority or involvement in the transfers, disciplinary proceedings or decisions concerning judicial officers, Minister of Justice Harshana Nanayakkara said.
Addressing media queries, the Minister said such matters fell entirely within the purview of the independent Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
Commenting on concerns raised over the transfers of certain magistrates, including Gampaha Magistrate, the Minister said judicial officers were transferred periodically according to an established chronological process managed by the JSC.
He said that the Government neither carries out such transfers nor has access to the Commission's internal reasons for making those decisions.
Responding to questions about a complaint lodged by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) concerning certain judicial decisions, Nanayakkara said a written complaint had been submitted to the JSC.
He said the matter would be examined independently and emphasised that neither he nor the Government would interfere in the process or comment on the merits of judicial proceedings.
