Spectators will get free entry to the Test series between India and Sri Lanka. The Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced this by issuing a notification. India will play two Test matches on its tour of Sri Lanka. The first match will be played in Galle from August 15, while the second match will be played in Colombo from 23 August.
Spectators will get free entry from Gate No. 4 at Galle International Stadium. At Colombo's SSC ground, ticket-free entry will be given from Gates No. 3, 4, 5, and 7. The board has appealed to spectators to come in large numbers to watch the match.
Stadiums remained empty during Test matches
In recent years, spectators in the subcontinent have not been coming to stadiums to watch Test matches. Crowds were absent during India's previous tour of Sri Lanka and also during the India-Afghanistan Test held earlier this year. It is for this reason that the Sri Lankan board has taken this initiative.
India at 5th position on WTC points table
India is currently in fifth place in the World Test Championship (WTC) points table. Sri Lanka is in sixth place. From a WTC perspective, both teams must win this series.
India whitewashed Sri Lanka on last tour in 2017
India won the series 3-0 on their last Test tour of Sri Lanka in 2017. The team registered a 304-run victory in Galle and an innings and 53-run victory in Colombo. Then, they defeated Sri Lanka by an innings and 171 runs in Pallekele.
Sri Lanka is coming off a series loss. The team suffered a 1-0 defeat in the 2-match Test series against West Indies.
