The Officer-in-Charge of the Crimes Division of the Homagama Police has been arrested in connection with the death of a person while in police custody.
Three police officers attached to the station, including the OIC, have had their duties suspended in connection with the incident.
Homagama Magistrate Rajinda Jayasuriya has ordered the Colombo South Crimes Division to expedite investigations into the death of the young man in police custody, arrest the suspects and produce them before the court.
The order was issued when a case filed by the victim’s relatives and several civil society organisations, through a motion seeking an order for the arrest of the suspects involved in the incident, was taken up for hearing.
