India’s Atal Innovation Mission Supports Launch of Tinkering Lab at Sri Lankan School
Colombo, November 4 (APAC Media): India’s Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), under NITI Aayog, is extending its innovation-focused education initiatives beyond the country, supporting the launch of a state-of-the-art Tinkering Lab at Nalanda College in Colombo, Sri Lanka.
The lab, inaugurated at the college’s Innovation Center, has been established with technical expertise, specialised curricula and training support from AIM.
The initiative aims to provide students with hands-on exposure to emerging technologies and encourage them to develop solutions to real-world challenges.
Facilitated by the High Commission of India in Sri Lanka, the collaboration builds on India’s experience of establishing Atal Tinkering Labs across thousands of schools to promote creativity, experimentation and problem-solving among young learners.
Equipped with technologies such as robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), 3D printing and digital manufacturing, the facility will offer students opportunities to explore emerging fields through practical learning.
The initiative brings together Atlas Axillia, the learning-focused subsidiary of Hemas Holdings, and Nalanda College to strengthen technology-based education and innovation opportunities for Sri Lankan students.
Speaking at the inauguration, Santosh Jha, High Commissioner of India to Sri Lanka, said India and Sri Lanka had added new dimensions to their friendship over the years. He noted that the collaboration reflected the shared aspirations and commitment of the two countries.
Former Sri Lankan cricketer and Nalanda College alumnus Mahela Jayawardene also attended the event and thanked India for its assistance.
The initiative highlights the expanding India-Sri Lanka partnership in education, science and technology. It is also expected to provide young learners with greater opportunities to engage with innovation, entrepreneurship and practical technology education.
