Colombo: In a series that has largely been incident-free, sparks flew when India opener Yashasvi Jaiswal and Sri Lanka pacer Asitha Fernando had a go at each other following the dismissal of the left-hander on the opening day of the second Test here on Sunday.
.
Jaiswal approached Asitha aggressively following what appeared to be a verbal send-off by the Lankan pacer. The Mumbai batter turned back and confronted Asitha before they were separated by other Lankan players. A bit of pushing and shoving happened even as Jaiswal and Asitha seemed to headbutt each other.
.India vs Sri Lanka Test | Yashasvi Jaiswal loses temper after dismissal, could face ICC sanction.
The incident would have surely attracted Match Referee Andy Pycroft's attention and both players would be summoned for a hearing.
.
Without absolving Asitha, India's batting coach Sitanshu Kotak agreed Jaiswal went too close to the player.

"I think he (the bowler) must have commented something and the incident happened in the heat of the moment. Obviously, Jaiswal, I don't think he should have been so close, but that happens when you are in that moment," he reasoned.
.
Sri Lanka bowling coach Ryan van Niekerk played it safe.
.
"The verbals are probably an overflow of emotion. I'll leave that to the match referee to deal with,” he said.
.
Kotak also allayed any fears of a major injury to Rishabh Pant who retired hurt after being struck on his left forearm by pacer Lahiru Kumara.
.
"I think he will be fine, yes," Kotak said to a pointed question on Pant.
.
The former Saurashtra batter was content with India's position -- 300/5 -- on day one, but felt some of the batters, who got good starts, should have made bigger knocks.
.India vs Sri Lanka Test | Devdutt Padikkal's 117 powers India to reach 300/5 on day one.
"I feel it was a good toss to win. The fast bowlers had a little movement which is good. We felt that the spin was also good. The bowlers were turning the ball a little on day one. I think it can assist spinners a little more on day four or day five. 300 for five is a good score, but, if you ask me personally, I would say 300 for three. Because three of our batters got set and got out. But sometimes it happens.
.
"Now it is the time for all-rounders and lower-order batsmen to contribute. And if we play the first season well, I think we will reach a total which we feel is a good total."
