Colombo, Aug. 10 (Daily Mirror) - A 41-year-old organized crime suspect Dhanushka Kaushalya alias “Ratmalana Saima,” wanted under an Interpol Red Notice has been arrested in Malaysia and brought back to Sri Lanka, along with two other suspects, following a joint operation involving local and international law enforcement authorities.

The operation was carried out by a team of officers from the Walana Central Anti-Corruption Strike Force with the cooperation of Malaysian and international police authorities. The three suspects were brought back to Sri Lanka by air today.

The main suspect, identified by police as a key associate of alleged organized crime figure Kanjipani Imran, a resident of Ratmalana, had also temporarily resided in Peradeniya and Tissamaharama, according to police.

He is a defendant in two separate cases before the Kandy Magistrate's Court. According to the Police, the cases relate to the alleged abduction of a person at gunpoint, assault and causing serious injuries in the Peradeniya Police area in 2014, and a 2016 shooting incident in the same police area in which a person was allegedly killed.

Police said open warrants had been issued for the suspect's arrest after he failed to appear before court in connection with the cases.

The suspect had also previously been arrested by Mount Lavinia Police in connection with a 2003 robbery case investigated before the Colombo High Court. He was additionally arrested in 2007 for allegedly possessing a hand grenade.

Two other individuals who were accompanying the main suspect at the time of his arrest in Malaysia were also detained. They have been identified as a 35-year-old resident of Ratmalana and a 31-year-old resident of Mount Lavinia.

Both suspects were subsequently brought back to Sri Lanka along with the main suspect for further investigations.
