Karwa Chauth is one of the most famous Hindu festivals which is usually observed around this time of the year. On this day, married women observe a fast for the safety and long life of their husbands.
In some parts of India, unmarried girls also take part in the ritual. This year, Karwa Chauth will be observed on Sunday, October 24, 2021.
The ritual begins with women waking up early to eat 'sargi' prepared by their mothers-in-law. 'Sargi' is the meal that women eat early in the morning and fast for the rest of the day.
At night, after seeing the moon and performing the rituals, women break their fast. The fast is completed after offering Arghya to the moon.
