Kumar Sangakkara, the former Sri Lankan cricketer, has accused Ryanair staff at Dublin Airport of exhibiting “discriminatory” and “threatening” behaviour towards him and his family during their recent travel.

In a post on X on October 29, Sangakkara described the actions of Ryanair gate personnel, citing their tone of address and mishandling of procedures as unacceptable. He stated, “Has anyone experienced discriminatory gate personnel @Ryanair in Dublin? I with my family just did and it was shocking. The tone of address and the mishandling of procedure and threatening behaviour. Unacceptable for any passenger. First bad experience in Dublin.”

Sangakkara is regarded as one of the greatest wicketkeeper-batsmen in cricket history. He was a vital member of the Sri Lankan team that dominated world cricket from the early 2000s to the early 2010s, following their historic 1996 World Cup victory.

Over his career, Sangakkara played 134 Test matches, amassing 12,400 runs at an average of 57.40, including 38 centuries and 52 half-centuries in 233 innings. His highest Test score was 319. He ranks as the seventh-highest run-scorer in Test cricket and the top run-scorer for Sri Lanka in the format. His wicketkeeping record includes 182 catches and 20 stumpings.

In One Day Internationals (ODIs), Sangakkara scored 14,234 runs in 380 innings across 404 matches, averaging 41.98, with 25 centuries and 93 half-centuries. His highest ODI score was 169, making him the third-highest run-scorer in ODIs and Sri Lanka’s leading scorer in that format.

In Twenty20 Internationals (T20Is), he accumulated 1,382 runs in 56 matches at an average of 31.40 and a strike rate of 119.55, which included eight half-centuries. His best T20I score was 78.
