Maathra 15, the milestone 15th edition of Sri Lanka’s largest school-based cultural dance legacy, concluded successfully on 27th August 2026 at the Bandaranaike Memorial International Conference Hall (BMICH), Colombo.

Presented by Lyceum International Schools, the landmark production brought together over 700 young performers from across the Lyceum network for two spectacular shows at 4:02 PM and 6:58 PM, creating an unforgettable celebration of Sri Lankan cultural dance, creativity and youthful artistry.

A Legacy Built on Vision and Dedication

The journey of Maathra began with the vision of Lyceum Founder, Dr. Mohan Lal Grero, to create meaningful opportunities for young people to experience, appreciate and carry forward Sri Lanka’s rich cultural heritage.

Over the years, with the guidance and support of Dr. (Mrs.) Kumari Grero, Senior Lecturer Mr. Rasika Kothalawala, and Ms. Nisha Kothalawala, Head of Cultural Dancing, that vision has evolved into a remarkable school-based cultural dance legacy.

Maathra 15 brought together talented performers representing Lyceum International Schools in Nugegoda, Wattala, Panadura, Gampaha, Kurunegala, Nuwara Eliya, Ratnapura, Anuradhapura, Avissawella and Katunayake, showcasing the strength and diversity of the Lyceum community.

15 Years of Rhythm, Creativity and Cultural Pride

For fifteen years, Maathra has provided generations of young Lyceumers with a prestigious platform to explore and showcase Sri Lankan dance while embracing creativity and contemporary artistic expression.

The milestone edition welcomed distinguished guests, including members of the diplomatic community, renowned artistes, education leaders, parents and supporters. The performances celebrated not only the artistic excellence of the young dancers but also the dedication of the teachers, choreographers, coordinators and families who contributed to their journey.

What began as a vision has grown into a powerful cultural movement. Maathra 15 reaffirmed its place as a landmark school-based cultural dance experience, inspiring a new generation to connect with their heritage through movement, music and artistic expression.

Maathra 15 was more than a performance. It was fifteen years of dreams, dedication, passion and creativity — brought together on one stage.

15 Years. Thousands of Dreams. One Enduring Legacy.
