On Day 2 of the second Test between India and Sri Lanka, tensions erupted just before the last call of stumps. In the end, Sri Lanka paid the price when Manav Suthar dismissed Prabath Jayasuriya in what ended up being the last over of the day.
The hosts were not happy that the umpires allowed the play to continue despite the Colombo light fading. Jayasuriya was ready to face Suthar in the second over of Sri Lanka's innings when the incident began.
Despite the light reading, the on-field umpires, Ahsan Raza and Sharfuddoula Saikat, decided that play could proceed as long as India used spinners and removed the pacers from the attack. Suthar was then brought on by Shubman Gill.
However, Sri Lankan batters Jayasuriya and Kamil Mishara expressed their anger to the officials while Suthar was getting ready to bowl. Suthar ultimately trapped the Sri Lankan nightwatchman in front of the wicket, causing him to lose his wicket on the day's last delivery.

Jayasuriya kept glancing back at the umpires as he made his way back to the pavilion. Sanjay Manjrekar, who was on live at the time, said that the Sri Lankan camp was obviously "disgruntled," as Jayasuriya threw his gloves when he got to the dressing room. The umpires called the players off due to bad light, hence the ball bowled to dismiss the nightwatchman ended up being the last delivery of the day.
“Just look at Prabath Jayasuriya, there is steam coming out of his ears,” said Manjrekar on the Sony Sports Network.
Sri Lanka ultimately finished Day 2 at 8/2, still 495 runs behind India. Prasidh Krishna and Suthar each claimed one wicket each for the visitors.

India declared their first innings at 503/9. On the second day, Dhruv Jurel was the top scorer, hitting his second Test century. As the visitors amassed over 500 runs, India's two centurions were Devdutt Padikkal and Jurel. Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill each scored half-centuries, and Ravindra Jadeja contributed 43 runs. Asitha Fernando, who took four wickets, was Sri Lanka's best bowler.
On the second day, the play was paused for over an hour due to rain. However, India took control of the Test match as a result of the late strikes. first published: Aug 25, 2026 09:41 am Top Trends CSK IPL 2026 schedule LSG IPL Team 2026 PBKS Team list 2026 DC IPL Team 2026 RR IPL Team 2026
