Colombo, Aug. 31 (Daily Mirror) - President Anura Kumara Dissanayake chaired a discussion at the Presidential Secretariat this afternoon on developing Sri Lanka’s mineral industry in line with the export-oriented National Mineral Policy 2026.
Officials from the Sri Lanka Mineral Sands Association (SLMSA) and the Geological Survey and Mines Bureau participated in the meeting, which focused on the exploration, extraction and value addition of the country’s mineral resources.
The discussion examined measures to systematically utilise Sri Lanka’s mineral resources to contribute to economic growth and boost export earnings.
Particular attention was given to improving infrastructure, introducing incentives to attract investors and strengthening research and development to support the expansion of domestic manufacturing industries.
The participants also discussed urgent measures to attract both foreign and local investment while addressing challenges faced by the mineral sector.
President Dissanayake highlighted the need to resolve difficulties encountered by investors when dealing with government institutions, particularly delays and other obstacles in obtaining licences required for mining activities.
The meeting also considered weaknesses in the existing policy framework, with the President stressing the importance of ensuring maximum transparency in the process of attracting investments.
He further emphasised the need for effective coordination among all institutions involved in the development and regulation of the mineral industry.
SPOILING A BEAUTIFUL COUNTRY. The world has enough minerals.Mining pollutes and irreparable damage. SL should abandon mining completely.

The small minded JVP can only think of some non existent wealth coming from minerals. In the modern era of iPhone, Microsoft and Space X people became trillionaires not by minerals but from their innovative ideas that changed the whole world. Leaving the private sector to do their own investments and make the environment right for their ideas to thrive!

Those big mind people destroyed this country. It was on it's way to become a developed country, but by creating disharmony between ethnic groups, this was dragged back 30 years. Even Bangladesh gave us a loan when those big minds bancrupted the country. It was this government now is beginning to pay those back. You and your idiotic, big ego, useless incaoable leaders can go back to the caves and camps to hide.

The small minded people can see only the things visible to their eyes. Counties became wealthy not by digging up minerals and selling them. That was done by having the right vision and right strategy. Look at wealthy countries like Japan, South Korea or Singapore. They have no natural resources and Singapore doesn’t have even water! The modern world of iPhone, Microsoft and Space X made their innovators trillionaires and changed the world by their vision. The governments’ role is to facilitate such innovation by helping the private investors by right policies.

This is the most incapable president we ever witnessed, worse than even D.B in 1993

President is calling for transparency but none of the complaints lodged with the bribery commission against sitting members of the government are examined at all. This is not what people expected.
