'Karnataka Ratna', the highest civilian award of Government of Karnataka, will be presented posthumously to Kannada actor, Puneeth Rajkumar, who passed away on October 29 last year.
The presentation ceremony will be held in front of the Vidhana Soudha (legislative assembly) in Bengaluru on November 1. This was decided at a meeting with the ministers, senior government officials and family members of the late actor.
Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai said so far, eight persons have been honoured with this award. However, nobody has received the award since 2009.
The CM said the award is being bestowed on the actor posthumously in recognition of the contribution he made to the Kannada film industry, language, and culture. “Puneeth Rajkumar is a real Karnataka Ratna as he has ruled the hearts of people through his achievements. He is a source of inspiration for youths,” Bommai said.
The award presentation ceremony will take place on the grand stairs of the Vidhana Soudha at 5 pm on November 1. The function will be attended by noted litterateurs, film personalities, MLAs among others.
