Sea Hawks FC struck twice in the second half to beat Renown SC 3-1 after a tight opening period in their FSL Women’s League football clash at the Racecourse ground in Colombo yesterday. The two sides were locked at 1-1 at halftime, but the Sea Hawks took control after the break and added two more goals to seal a convincing victory.
Renown made the brighter start and opened the scoring in only the second minute through midfielder Kukanitha Suthkaran, putting Sea Hawks under immediate pressure. Sea Hawks responded in the 13th minute when midfielder Poornima Sandamali found the net to bring the scores level at 1-1. Neither side could break the deadlock during the remainder of the first half as the teams went into the interval on even terms.

Sea Hawks returned with greater purpose after the break and Sandamali struck again in the 62nd minute, completing a brace and putting his side 2-1 ahead. Renown were then forced to chase the game, but Sea Hawks protected their advantage and remained in control as the contest moved into its closing stages.
The winners finally put the result beyond doubt deep into stoppage time when midfielder Malika Sankalpana scored in the 90+3rd minute to make it 3-1.
The late goal completed a strong second half display from Sea Hawks, who turned a level game at the interval into a two-goal victory. Sea Hawks made three substitutions during the match, while Renown made one. Sea Hawks’ Sankalpana was also cautioned in stoppage time.
