Sharvari Wagh seems to be the musical flavor of Hindi cinema in 2024 and the rising star has not only delivered hits with her films, like her 100 crore blockbuster Munjya and the global streaming hit Maharaj , but has also clocked over 400 million views on YouTube with her mega-hit songs Taras ( Munjya ), Haan ke haan ( Maharaj ), Tainu khabar nahin (also from Munjya ).
Sharvari says, “Songs are very important for an actor because they make their way into the hearts and minds of audience. I have been lucky that I have had three huge hit songs in 2024 and what’s amazing is that they are all diverse! Taras is an out- an-out dance number, Haan ke haan has an old-world romantic charm to it and Tainu khabar nahin is a love song of this generation.”
Sharvari adds, “2024 has been an exceptional year for me, Not only have my films become huge hits, even the songs have become incredible successes. What I’m feeling is very precious and I hope I can continue this streak in my future films. I’m thankful for the love that people have showered on my films, my songs and on me! I’m working very hard to make them even prouder of me, because getting love from people is a rare emotion for any actor to receive.”
Sharvari will be next seen in YRF Spy Universe’s Alpha in which she stars with Alia Bhatt. Right now, she is the only actress common to two of the three Hindi cinema Universes, the other being the Maddock Horror Comedy Supernatural Universe.
She made her acting debut with the 2020 The Forgotten Army— Azaadi Ke Liye opposite Sunny Kaushal, with Kabir Khan as director. She made her film debut alongside Rani Mukerji, Saif Ali Khan and Siddhant Chaturvedi in Yash Raj Films’ Bunty Aur Babli 2 , which was released in 2021, winning the Filmfare Award for Best Female Debut and the IIFA Award for Star Debut of the Year – Female.
Sharvari is the granddaughter of veteran politician Manohar Joshi and the daughter of a builder father and architect mother.
Rajiv Vijayakar is the Entertainment Editor at South Asian Herald. He has been a journalist and critic for over 25 years and was part of the National Film Awards Jury in India in 2011 and 2015.
