Sri Lanka have left out Inoka Ranaweera, the 40-year-old left-arm spinner, from the 15-player squad for the upcoming Women's T20 World Cup, announced by Sri Lanka Cricket on Friday. Ranaweera, a veteran of 91 T20Is, along with Rashmika Sewwandi and Dewmi Vihanga, who were a part of the Sri Lanka squad on the tour to Bangladesh in April-May, are the three players left out of the side. Ranaweera didn't get a chance to play in the T20Is against Bangladesh, but in her last tour - against West Indies at St George's in March - she bowled tidy spells in each of her three outings, picking a brace in two of those. Meanwhile, the selectors have recalled Vishmi Gunaratne, the 20-year-old batter, to the side. One of the promising young talents, Gunaratne has featured in 54 T20Is but struggled for form in the shortest format, especially since the start of the 2024 T20 World Cup. Apart from her, the selectors have also picked Shashini Gimhani, the 17-year-old ambidextrous wrist spinner and Kawya Kavindi, the 23-year-old seamer Squad: Chamari Athapaththu (Captain), Hasini Perera, Vishmi Gunarathne, Harshitha Samarawickrama, Imesha Dulani, Nilakshika Silva, Kaveesha Dilhari, Hansima Karunarathne, Kaushini Nuthyangana, Sugandika Dassanayaka, Nimasha Madushani, Shashini Gimhani, Kawya Kavindi, Malki Madara, Mithali Ayodhya The Sri Lankan side, led by skipper Chamari Athapaththu, will begin their campaign with the tournament opener against England in Edgbaston, on June 12. They will then play New Zealand in Southampton, followed by games against West Indies and Ireland in Bristol. The last of their league game is set to be played against Scotland at Old Trafford on June 26. The squad is set to depart for England on June 3.
