One of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated restaurant brands has officially arrived in London. Isso Prawn Crazy has opened its doors in Canary Wharf, marking the brand’s first international location and introducing Londoners to the bold flavours and premium seafood that have made it a household name across Sri Lanka.
Founded in Colombo in 2016 by entrepreneur Apinash Sivagumaaran, Isso began as a humble 16-seat restaurant with a simple mission: to celebrate the country’s world-class prawns through accessible, flavour-led dining. Less than a decade later, the brand has grown to multiple restaurants across Sri Lanka, earning a reputation as one of the country’s leading homegrown hospitality success stories. London marks the next chapter in that journey, with the 90-seat Canary Wharf site chosen as the next step in the brand’s expansion.
Named after the Sinhala word for ‘prawn’, Isso places Sri Lanka’s prized seafood at the centre of every dish. The restaurant works directly with fishing communities in northern Sri Lanka to source its prawns, guaranteeing a taste, size and texture found nowhere else in the capital. Guests build their own dish by choosing a prawn base, sauce and side. The base or ‘protein’ includes options of Black Tiger Prawns, Flower Prawns, Giant Freshwater Prawns or Colossal Fresh Water Prawns. This is then paired with one of Isso’s distinctive sauces, from the Kithul infused with Garlic & Chilli and Hot Butter to fragrant Sri Lankan Turmeric Coconut Curry, Jaffna Curry and Negombo Curry. The final component is a ‘carrier’ or side, of Ghee rice, Curry Leaf and Garlic Rice, or Parotta. Additional dishes including Isso Wade, Coconut Crumbed Prawns, cuttlefish fritto, veg pakora and more round off a diverse offering catering to every palate.
To complement the food, Isso Prawn Crazy offers a carefully curated drinks list spanning classic and signature cocktails, wines, beers and premium spirits, alongside refreshing lemonades and iced tea and heritage Colombo pours.
