Colombo, Oct. 9 (Daily Mirror) - Sri Lanka is planning to establish three diplomatic missions in China, Kazakhstan and Switzerland, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Employment Arun Hemachandra informed Parliament today.
He said the country would reopen its diplomatic mission in Chengdu, China, which was closed in 2016, while new missions would be established in Astana, Kazakhstan, and Bern, Switzerland.
Responding to a question raised by MP Major General (Retd.) G.D. Sooriyabandara, the Deputy Minister said the decision was based on the need to expand economic opportunities, strengthen bilateral diplomatic relations, attract investment, promote tourism and address the consular needs of Sri Lankan communities living overseas.
He further stated that Cabinet approval had already been granted for the establishment of the three diplomatic missions.
