A group of Sri Lankan hospitality students has been offered internship opportunities at The Ned Doha, a luxury hotel and private members’ club in Qatar, under a programme initiated by the Sri Lankan Embassy in Doha.

According to the Embassy, the programme has been introduced in collaboration with The Ned Doha to provide international industry exposure and practical training for students of the Sri Lanka Institute of Tourism and Hotel Management (SLITHM).

The first batch of eight out of 12 selected students arrived in Doha and commenced their internships on October 25, 2026.

The students will receive practical training in key hospitality sectors, including front office operations, housekeeping and culinary arts.

Deputy Minister of Tourism Ruwan Ranasinghe, who was in Qatar to attend the World Investment Forum 2026, participated in the inauguration ceremony and congratulated the students.

Addressing the event, the Deputy Minister highlighted the government’s commitment to developing a skilled workforce for Sri Lanka’s tourism industry through international training opportunities.

He also encouraged The Ned Doha to expand the programme to accommodate more Sri Lankan trainees in the coming years.

Meanwhile, The Ned Doha Managing Director Massimiliano Binda revealed that over 40 Sri Lankan professionals are currently employed at the hotel, commending their performance and contribution.

He also proposed establishing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the relevant institutions to formalise the programme and facilitate the recruitment of more Sri Lankan interns.

The inauguration ceremony was attended by Sri Lankan Ambassador to Qatar Sithara Khan, officials from the Sri Lankan Embassy and tourism sector, and senior representatives of The Ned Doha. (Newswire)
