The St. Benedict’s College Alumni Association (Canada) will honour the memory and remarkable contribution of Donald Bastiampillai, a distinguished Old Ben whose life was deeply connected to St. Benedict’s College football and the wider Bens community.

Bastiampillai was a talented footballer during his school days at St. Benedict’s College and his love for football did not end with his school career. Throughout his life, he remained a strong supporter of football at St. Benedict’s College and played an important role in helping to develop and strengthen the Bens football programme in Sri Lanka.

He generously gave his time, experience and financial support to the Bens Soccer Wing, helping young players and contributing to the continued development of football at his alma mater. His commitment went far beyond simply being a supporter. He believed in giving back to the College and helping future generations of Bens experience the opportunities and camaraderie that sport can provide.

He was also a founding member of the St. Benedict’s College Alumni Association (Canada), contributing to the establishment and growth of the Bens community in Canada and remained a strong and dedicated supporter of Bens activities by supporting the development of Bens soccer in Canada.

To commemorate his outstanding contribution to St. Benedict’s College and Bens’ football, the St. Benedict’s College Alumni Association (Canada) will honour Donald Bastiampillai in Canada by introducing the Donald Bastiampillai Memorial Trophy at the annual Bens–Wesley soccer encounter on September 6, 2026, in Toronto, Canada.
