Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) is deploying its BaNCS for Treasury platform at Indian Bank’s Colombo branch, extending the software’s footprint into Sri Lanka and expanding an existing technology relationship with the lender.

The deployment will support Indian Bank’s overseas treasury operations across money markets, investment management and foreign exchange.

TCS says the platform will provide a consolidated view of treasury positions, liquidity, limits and exposures across instruments and currencies, while reducing manual intervention and improving straight-through processing.

The move follows deployments of TCS BaNCS for Treasury across Indian Bank’s operations in India and at GIFT City in Gujarat.

Extending the platform to Colombo is intended to create a more unified approach to treasury operations across the bank’s locations.

The platform will bring deal processing and treasury information onto a single system, giving the Colombo branch real-time visibility into positions and exposures.

It is also designed to strengthen risk and limit controls and support compliance-ready reporting.

For the bank, the expected operational benefits include faster deal execution and settlement, improved foreign exchange and market risk management, and stronger audit and regulatory readiness.

A consolidated source of treasury information is also intended to support decision-making across instruments and currencies.

S Viswanathan, CEO of Indian Bank’s Sri Lanka Operations, said the bank needed a platform that could support growth while improving control, transparency and operational agility.

The bank selected BaNCS for Treasury because it had already been deployed across its India and GIFT City operations, Viswanathan said. He added that the platform would provide a modern foundation for evolving banking requirements and help build a more resilient and scalable treasury operation.

TCS will manage the deployment and provide ongoing maintenance, with integration planned for Indian Bank’s existing systems and international market infrastructure.

The company says this approach is intended to support a smooth implementation and accelerate time-to-value.

Venkateshwaran Srinivasan, global head of financial solutions at TCS, said treasury transformation involves more than automation, requiring banks to operate with greater speed, insight and confidence in changing market conditions.

He said the deployment would bring treasury functionality, operational resilience and regulatory support to Indian Bank’s overseas business in Sri Lanka.

The announcement marks the entry of TCS BaNCS for Treasury into Sri Lanka. However, TCS and Indian Bank have not disclosed the contract value, implementation timeline or go-live date. The release also does not identify third-party implementation partners or outline plans to extend the platform to other overseas branches.

The deployment highlights demand for integrated treasury systems that combine transaction processing, risk visibility and regulatory reporting, for technology providers and systems integrators serving the banking sector.

The announcement does not, however, confirm any new channel programme or partner opportunity linked to the project.
