Today marks Easter Sunday Sri Lanka Mirror

Easter Sunday, one of the most sacred observances for Christians worldwide, falls today (April 05) and is being marked with deep devotion across Sri Lanka and globally.

The day commemorates the Resurrection of Jesus Christ, which Christians believe occurred on the third day following His crucifixion at Golgotha in Jerusalem after an unjust trial under Roman Governor Pontius Pilate.

It signifies the redemption of mankind from sin and is observed with profound religious significance.

The 40-day Lenten season, during which devotees engaged in prayer, fasting, and other religious observances reflecting on the suffering, death, and resurrection of Jesus Christ, also concludes today.

In line with tradition, midnight “Alleluia” services were held at churches across the country last night (April 04).

A special service attended by the Archbishop of Colombo, Cardinal Malcolm Ranjith, was held at St. Lucia’s Cathedral in Kotahena.

Meanwhile, the police have implemented special security arrangements for Easter Sunday Masses held island-wide.
