A young Turkish woman travelling on the Podi Menike train from Nanu Oya to Badulla sustained serious injuries after falling from the train while attempting to take a selfie.
The accident occurred this morning (19) in the Ambewela area, according to the Pattipola Police.
Police said a group of tourists, including three young Turkish women, had been travelling to Ella by train after visiting the Nuwara Eliya area.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the woman had been leaning out from the train's footboard to take a selfie when she slipped and fell.
She was brought to Ambewela Railway Station on the same train before being taken by ambulance to the Nuwara Eliya District General Hospital.
Hospital sources said she was later transferred to the National Hospital, Kandy, for further treatment.
The Pattipola Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
