Minister K.D. Lal Kantha has revealed that two double cabs assigned to him by his ministry broke down during official travel, forcing him to use a private vehicle belonging to a close friend to carry out his duties.

Addressing a public event, the Minister said he had been using two double cabs obtained from his ministry, but recently experienced mechanical problems with both vehicles.

He explained that one of the vehicles broke down midway through a journey, prompting him to arrange for the second cab. However, the replacement vehicle also broke down after travelling a short distance.

As a result, he said he was compelled to use a vehicle belonging to a close friend to continue his official duties.

Minister Lal Kantha said the government was facing a shortage of suitable vehicles and other facilities, stressing the need to provide new vehicles for official use.

He also highlighted the deteriorating condition of several government-owned buildings, noting that some official residences and properties were in poor condition, with damaged roofs, broken washrooms and a lack of maintenance.

The Minister said that although a new government had assumed office, it had inherited several shortcomings in state facilities and infrastructure. He further claimed that ministers had not obtained additional privileges or benefits since assuming office.

Meanwhile, commenting on the global situation, Minister Lal Kantha claimed that the government had taken measures to minimise the impact of international conflicts on Sri Lanka.

He said the government had ensured the continued functioning of essential services despite global challenges and claimed that Sri Lanka was providing fuel at one of the lowest prices. (Newswire)
