Uber has officially launched Uber Black, its premium ride experience, in Sri Lanka. As per the company, Uber Black connects riders with “high-end vehicles and highly rated drivers for a more refined ride experience.”
The offering typically features late-model luxury cars and SUVs with brands like BMW, Audi, Mercedes-Benz, and so on. The service also gives riders options such as setting preferred in-car temperature, luggage assistance, or quiet mode.
“With options spanning affordable two- and three-wheelers to cars and now a premium offering with Uber Black, we can better serve the diverse mobility needs of locals and tourists alike, while supporting the country’s growing tourism economy,” comments Kaushalya Gunaratne, Country Manager for Mobility, Uber Sri Lanka. She goes on to state that “Uber Black is an important step in that journey and reflects our ambition to keep raising the bar for on-demand mobility in Sri Lanka.”
Since its entry to Sri Lanka in 2015 and its food delivery counterpart a few years later, the ride-hailing app has extended several of its popular offerings to the local market. Back in 2023, the company launched the Uber One subscription in Sri Lanka , less than a year after PickMe’s subscription service. By 2025, Uber opened up its Women Rider Preference feature, which lets female drivers receive trip requests only from female passengers.
Uber Black marks the company’s latest effort at expanding its customer base, particularly in a highly competitive market. However, Uber isn’t the entity looking to extend its reach in the ride-hailing space. Last year, PickMe moved into events via its QR code ticketing system . More recently, it added a 20-foot truck option to PickMe Truck service. Now, Helakuru’s entry into the industry with HelaGo only translates to more ambitious attempts at capturing a bigger slice of Sri Lanka’s mobility cake.
All in all, the launch of Uber Black in Sri Lanka means the company now provides a wide variety of options ranging from motorcycles and tuks to SUVs. It also makes for an intriguing addition for riders seeking premium services.
