Tamil Maanila Congress (Moopanar) president G.K. Vasan on Monday (November 2, 2026) urged the Central government to take immediate steps to secure the release of seven Tamil Nadu fishermen recently detained by the Sri Lankan Navy .
In a statement, the former Union Minister said the fishermen, who had ventured into the sea for fishing, were arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy and their boats confiscated on Sunday (November 1) morning. He expressed concern over the repeated incidents of arrests, harassment and attacks against Tamil Nadu fishermen by the Sri Lankan authorities.
Mr. Vasan called upon the Central government to intervene diplomatically with Sri Lanka, ensure the immediate release of the detained fishermen and secure the return of their boats.
